Community and Voluntary organisations invited to apply for share of grant to bring empty homes back into use

25 January 2012

Communities Minister Andrew Stunnel has invited community and voluntary organisations to apply for a share of £100m to bring empty homes back into use stating that the Government cash would be used to create more affordable housing and give a new lease of life to homes and communities.

Around 720,000 homes are sitting empty across the country, with 280,000 unused and under-maintained for six months or more.

Fund manager Tribal have been appointed to distribute funding to successful applicants. They will also be assessing applications and reporting back to the Department.

Successful applications will:

* bring empty houses back into use as affordable housing
* deliver value for money
* have support from their local authority
* expect to be complete by 31 March 2015

Application forms can be accessed via www.grantsadmin.co.uk/

Deadline for applications is 17 April 2012.
