United Utilities to continue concession offer on surface water and drainage charges to community groups

United Utilities is one of a number of water companies that have offered concessions on drainage charges to community groups in their patch.

Last year Ofwat insisted that they could only continue to offer reduced charges if they consulted local residents on the scheme. Community Matters was delighted when United Utilities contacted us recently to say that following a successful consultation, Ofwat has now agreed that they can continue the scheme.

The concessions can make a huge difference to water bills for local community centres and halls, especially if they are big buildings or have large car parks. Community Matters is very grateful to United Utilities for being willing to battle with the regulator to continue to offer these concessions and support its local community sector. Let’s hope that other water companies follow suit.
